My adventures in ED continue. Once again it is 5am and I am not busy, but not really bored.

Because I have just started this blog I don't think anyone will be reading these comments. At the moment I don't really have a plan for what things I am going to write in here. I Guess I will keep it as a kind of open journal, that's probably what most people do.

Tonight I have been using google to look at potential for atmospheric carbon capture algal biofuels and biosequestration of carbon, possible sites for biosequestration in Australia and (in-between seeing the odd patient).

Atmospheric carbon caputre: I read about this first in Wallace Broeker's book "Fixing Climate".

Apparently in april 2007 Global Research Technologies, demonstrated a machine that performs this task the ACCESS (Atmospheric Carbon CapturE SystemS).
http://www.physorg.com/news96732819.html; I googled the company (http://www.grestech.com/), and it is the one that Broeker describes in his book.

These systems produce streams of CO2 which then need to be used. One way in suggested on the GRS site is for use in producing algae for biofuel feedstock

So I searched on google for algal biofuels, and came up with this site http://http//www.biofuelsdigest.com/blog2/2008/03/19/petrosun-to-launch-first-commercial-scale-algae-farm-for-biofuel-in-us-1831-acre-facility-to-produce-5000-8000-gallons-per-acre/

which seems to be a biofuels news site

and it had this link on it
http://http//www.making-biodiesel-books.com/algae-biodiesel3.html

which started me off dreaming about potential for doing something small like that in Alice Springs. It would be great to combine those two technologies in a small buisness one day.....

The other options was sequestration. I didn't look as hard, however a google search on geosequestration australia found this co-operative http://www.co2crc.com.au/about/. They provided a PDF that suggests that suitable sites might be available around Alice Springs. http://www.co2crc.com.au/dls/factsheets/CO2CRC_FactSheet_08.pdf. However I haven't looked at whether this sort of thing would be possible on a small scale at all.

For my next time I think that I will have a google around and see if I can find out a little about wether it is possible on a small scale and have a read about the prize for achieving atmospheric removal of CO2 with storage that I have heard about in a few places.
